Lisa Amerongen – Volunteer of the Month July 2019
Lisa Amerongen joined Funnies for Families with an impressive improv expertise, a hilarious wit and a very big heart. We learn from her every time she does a show and we’re so thankful to have her as a volunteer. ✨
Check out our little interview with Lisa Amerongen below:
1. What is your favourite thing about volunteering with Funnies?
So many things! I love watching the kids and their caregivers whisper excitedly about which suggestions they’re going to give. I love when the littlest kids wander into the playing space, integrating them in the scenes is so fun and magical. I love Rock’s show intros, they make me laugh.
2. What do you do outside of volunteering?
Oooh! I work at the Centre for Social Innovation. It’s an incubator and co-working space for social purpose organizations and folks working to put people and planet first. It’s really amazing. The world is pretty scary right now and CSI provides an island of sanity, a place for joy, just like Funnies for Families.
3. What’s your favourite thing to do in the summer?
Camp Oochigeas! I just got back from a week of volunteering up there and it’s the best ever. Other than that, being near water with a book and biking around the city!
4. What’s something special about your family?
Our brunch-time hard boiled egg wars. Two people, two eggs, only one champion.
5. Who are your favourite comedians? Let’s say top three. Local or beyond.
Daphney Joseph and Liz Johnston are two of my favourite local performers, they are so-so-so funny. Troupe wise I love A Boy’s Memoir/My Chemical Bromance and The Tita Collective. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a top fav celeb.
