Jan Caruana – Volunteer of the Month May 2018
Ever since we were introduced to the Toronto comedy scene, we’ve been in love with Jan Caruana. Not only is she incredibly one-of-a-kind funny, she’s also wonderfully humble and kind. As a volunteer, she instantly creates a friendly and welcoming relationship with the families at our shows. And even donates to Funnies from her own pocket. Want to learn more about this amazing gal? We asked her some questions below!
1. What is your favourite thing about volunteering with Funnies?
I love seeing families forget their worries for a few minutes or even a few seconds and laugh together. Volunteering with Funnies is a completely selfish act. Seeing these kids have fun and just get to be kids fills my heart.
2. What do you do outside of volunteering?
I write for radio and television. I also perform live a lot and on screen sometimes.
3. What’s a funny memory from your family?
Once I walked in on my dad watching Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me” Video on Much Music. He turned to me and said “this is a good song.” He was probably around 70 at the time.
4. What’s your favourite holiday to spend with family?
Christmas is always nice to be together. But I think my favourite is Canada Day. There is a big fair in the park near where I grew up and there are fireworks at night. It’s the best.
5. Who are your favourite comedians? Let’s say top three. Local or beyond.
We have so much talent in Toronto, it seems crazy to look beyond. I’m lucky to get to work with so many great comedians both, performing and writing. I can’t choose!
