Kristie Gunter Bio

Kristie Gunter is a performer and activist in Toronto. Originally from Vancouver Island, BC, she moved to Toronto in 2011 to pursue acting and comedy. In 2014 she started Funnies for Families alongside co-founder Rockland Pickard, and currently serves as Executive Director.

As Executive Director, Kristie oversees the operations of Funnies for Families. This includes, onboarding volunteers, managing relationships with the venues, booking the shows, in addition to performing at shows.

Kristie has always loved comedy and feels improv is a perfect way to bring laughter into the lives of families going through their hardest times. It’s a collaborative way to create magical moments with everyone in the room, you’re all discovering the jokes together as the scene goes on.

Kristie has been improvising since her high school days in the Canadian Improv Games, and continued her improv training at The Second City Toronto, completing many programs and classes including The Conservatory program.

Coming from a big family herself (she is one of six kids) she has always loved performing for children and families more than any other audience. She has always felt a connection with children especially and feels they are the funniest, most creative, and honest people on earth.

Kristie has spent all her life working with children, previously working with kids at comedy camps and improv clubs and recently volunteering for Nanny Angel and working at SickKids Hospital. Perhaps the influence of children has lead to her main food source being Skittles (preferably berry). And her hearty work ethic has allowed her to be one of the lead buyers of Tetley’s orange pekoe tea, with a minimum of three cups a day.

Kristie leads with her heart, and earnestly believes in the benefits of Funnies for Families. She is proud to represent and serve such important work.
